Worcester Man Charged Following Police Chase with a Stolen Vehicle from Holyoke

police lights and handcuffsSpringfield, Mass. (WGGB) — A Worcester man is facing multiple charges after police say he led them on a chase in Weston using a stolen vehicle from Holyoke.

State Police allege that 33 year-old, Roberto Rivera refused to stop for them on the Massachusetts Turnpike at Route 90 in the Weston/Newton area at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.  They had received a number of calls of an erratic vehicle travelling on the eastbound side, east of the Weston tolls.

Police then began pursuing Rivera who was in a 2004 Acura MDX sport utility vehicle and when they checked the license plate it was revealed the car was reported stolen out of Holyoke earlier this month.

During the pursuit Rivera lost control of the Acura crashing into a 2012 Ford Transit van.   The van’s operator, a 41 year-old Spencer man, was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with minor injuries.

Rivera, who was promptly arrested by police following the crash, was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with minor facial lacerations caused by air bag deployment.

He faces multiple charges connected to the stolen motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
