BOSTON (AP) — A federal judge says he’ll order Massachusetts to pay more than $700,000 in legal fees for a convicted murderer who successfully sued for a state-funded sex change.
The Boston Globe reports Judge Mark Wolf said Wednesday he’ll decide the specific amount later.
The judge ruled in September sex reassignment surgery is the “only adequate treatment” for Michelle Kosilek’s gender-identity disorder and awarded legal fees.
It was the first time a judge has ordered prison officials to provide sex reassignment surgery to an inmate. The state is appealing and won’t comment.
The judge says the state has paid large legal fees in other prisoner rights cases. He notes Kosilek’s lawyers have offered to dismiss their request if the state drops its appeal.
Kosilek was named Robert when convicted of his wife’s 1990 murder.

They are wondering where # SS money, Medicare and Medicaid money will come from and we are “paying for this kind of stuff!” Absolutely unbelievable!!!! I am floored! This should be overturned, judge and lawyer as someone before mentioned, investigated throughly and this should be put on a “Voter Ballot” to be approved by a special election to see if we voters want to pay for this stuff! People are dying that are law abiding citizens because they do not have money to pay for a transplant, cancer operations, special kidney treatments and I could go on and on about children dying of childhood diseases and issues due to lack of insurance paying! Yet, the judge gives this person a whole gender change operation???? Is this judge for real? This should be brought before the Supreme Court I believe, for “all states” to turn down this madness! Why are taxpayers paying for this criminal ! Does the judge want to kick in some of his pension to pay for this? I think not! We can not let this “craziness continue without doing nothing!!!” We all need to speak to our representatives, senators and Washington DC!
