Springfield, Mass. (WGGB) — A man is in serious condition this evening after being struck on State Street in Springfield.
That’s according to Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Clapprood who says he is “hanging on by a thread.”
Police report the individual went through the windshield of a vehicle. They received the call at 6:21 p.m.
The victim has been since transported to Baystate Medical Center.
Police say the driver did stop at the scene and they are investigating.
An accident reconstruction team has been called in as well.
The accident happened at 1250 State Street in the area of the MassMutual Center.
No word yet on if the driver will face any charges.

I was standing right there at the bus stop when it happened. The van hit him hard, he also was crossing on a green thou & it was dark. Hope hes okay thou.
U don’t know if speed is a factor people also don’t wear bright colors like they are suppose to not do they look to make sure a car is coming
So it was dark, assume he wasn’t wearing any bright high vis colors, and he was crossing the street when he wasn’t supposed too. And the van just hit him. Why???????
I feel trrily sad that someone got hurt ..let me make that clear first…But now we need to make a move to get ALL CARS off the road now..its happening way to often…
Oh my gosh, we need a ban on cars. They kill way too many people.
Let me start by saying, I seriously signed up for this blog because I am so tired of reading the stupidity that is posted on this sight. While I feel extremely bad for the person hit by the car, the driver of the car is also a victim. Crosswalks are made for pedestrian safety. there are at least three in that general area. If everyone follows the rules the streets would be a whole lot safer. Also, none of us know the actual details of this accident, including the person who claimed they were there, doesn’t look like a van in the picture.
I really do hope the person survives…

Cars, like gun are dangerous. Lets regulate them all….. not
I clearly was there & i know wat i saw. The van was the cause of the accident. Take it from someone that was actually there & saw everything. As traumatizing it was standing there with my son, both ways the accident could of been preventable cuz no wasnt paying attention to the road, one trying to cross on green with heavy traffic & the other is trying to beat the light.
Oh, lets ban fried foods too. Oh and airplanes cause they crash and kill hundreds at a time.

The van caused the other car to hit the pedestrian try to beat the light. Its hard to explain if you was there you would understand.
Sorry amber u had to witness that with ur son..and michael fitgerald please don’t say what I am liking or not I just felt the jokes or watever shuda not been thrown out at that time. My father is a proud gun owner and I work with young children. I don’t agree to take away guns but I do feel that there shud be a better way to protect our kids from this craziness going on. Back to the subject some one was seriously hurt save the hahas for another time

Let me start by saying this. Before saying something negativve find out all the information first. IT WAS MY LITTLE BROTHER WHO GOT HIT BY THIS VEHICLE AND HE WAS CROSSING ON A CROSSWALK!! FOLLOWING THE RULES. No need for the sarcasim. someones life is in danger because a driver who was not paying attention. So I would appreciate if you keep those comments to yourself. What if it was someone you love.

i should start off by saying this is my little cousin who was struck by the car, but what i dont understand from the eye whitness comment is, what does another van have to do with this accident? if you were there I’d like to hear details (Amber)
I lost a brother in law last year on July 4th when he was hit by a car, lost a friend on July 4th 2 years before that to a hit and run. My prayers go out to the victim and his family. No one wants to remember a holiday this way.
I pray he pulls through!
