John Flynn, Longtime Hampden Selectman, Dies at 79
HAMPDEN, Mass. (WGGB) – A longtime Hampden selectman has passed away.
79-year-old John Flynn died at Baystate Medical Center on Thursday.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Flynn owned and operated Hampden Engineering in East Longmeadow.
He went on to serve for 33 years as selectman in the town of Hampden, as well as six years on the town’s planning board.
Flynn was also involved in the Hampden Lions Club, and served as a trustee emeritus of Elms College and a member of the Minnechaug Building Committee.
Flynn is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheila, their eight children, and 25 grandchildren,as well as two siblings.
A wake will be held Wednesday, January 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At the Byron Keenan Funeral Home on Allen Street in Springfield.
Funeral services are set for Thursday, January 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church on Somers Road in Hampden.
