PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire officials say an 18-year-old Massachusetts man has died after he and friends went on a midnight sledding excursion at Wildcat Mountain ski area.
Searchers found the body of Joseph Murad of Hanson, Mass., at about 8 a.m. Friday in the woods off the side of one of the ski trails a half mile below the summit.
Fish and Game conservation officers say two friends reported him missing at 3:30 in the morning, after their search for him failed.
Authorities say they believe injuries sustained when his sled crashed were the major cause of Murad’s death.
Fish and Game officials stress that Wildcat was closed at the time the trio hiked to the summit, and that sledding is not allowed on ski trails even when the mountain is operating.

These were not kids, they were young adults that did something stupid and senseless. I am sure alcohol was an influence for this tragedy
My condolences to the family. The sad part is his friends may be charged with some
criminal charge
Another senseless death! Teenagers think they can beat all odds, just have to go and do STUPID things!
Maybe if people followed the rules an didnt just do stuff the person would still be alive…. My prayers are with the family
That’s sad….so young! I wish these kids would follow the rules and advice of officials, instead of seeking such dangerous “fun”
So senseless……..that is why there are rules to follow………Praying for the ones left behind and the Family’s………………
I read these articles to my teenagers in hopes that they will think about consequences before they make such decisions. My heart goes out to the family of this young man. Sooo very sorry
God bless him and his family.
Sledding at midnight? This is what happens when society doesn’t provide a place for these kids to vent and hangout.
I hope the surviving friends are being charged with manslaughter. You know they searched a long time leaving him wounded because they didn’t want to get in trouble for trespassing.
Kids today are such masochists!
Agreed Brandon
Pathetic if any friends are charged or worst wildcat gets sued. Grown young adults doing stupid things. He obviously participated willingly no one else is responsible for his actions but HIM. Maybe if society stopped the blame game these young adults would know responsibility!!
Clearly we need more laws! Possibly they need to cut all the trees down or build guzzilion dollar barriers to keep the unruly sledders on the trails that are forbidden.
Ban semi-automatic sleds!
@ April.. Seriously?? Friends charged with manslaughter? Thats the most rediculous thing I’ve heard in a while.. Well aside from a parent at sandyhook suing the school, but I’m sure you’re all for that too. This is why our courts are so backed up and can’t bring justice when needed. These young adults all willingly took part in this excursion. Very tragic and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.
These kids just don’t listen! My heart goes out to the family and the friends that were with him. These kids do not need to be charged with anything! They have enough to deal with, losing a friend is very tough… RIP I hope others learn from this…
Some teenage boys have an exaggerated sense of immortality believing they can do anything. In this case, a video game would have been a smarter choice.
Theyre KIDS! 18 is FAR from a grown adult! The delusion of some never fails to amaze me!
