Springfield Police Look to Curb Drunk Driving

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — While you’re out ringing in the New Year next week make sure to take precautions if you’re going to be drinking during your celebrations.

Drunk driving is dangerous and local law enforcement are pulling out all the stops to keep roadways safe.

“The officers are looking for motorists that are doing unusual things, whether it’s speeding, turning improperly, anything that will catch the officers attention. Basically we are pulling them over getting a chance to speak to them, detect whether they have been drinking or not,” said Springfield Police Officer Timothy Sheehan.

Yellow Cabs in Springfield is offering free rides on New Year’s Eve to people who have had too much to drink. The rides start at 8pm on New Year’s Eve and go until the morning. The cabs will pick you up and drive you to the address on your license.

“We give free rides home for people who are out drinking so they don’t have to drive home drunk get into an accident or anything like that,” said Kamyar Rahmani-Kia, Yellow Cab of Springfield.
