Student Mural Vandalized, Southwick Police Investigate

SOUTHWICK (WGGB) – A mural depicting life under the sea painted by local Southwick students has been vandalized on the Rail Trail bike path, police say.

Lieutenant David Ricardi of the Southwick Police Department tells ABC40 that while the most recent rash of graffiti happened recently, the mural has been a target for vandals since the summer months.

The artwork was painted on the inner-walls of the Point Grove Road underpass in 2011. Paintings of fish, dolphins, and other sea life are now mostly painted over – a move police say the town did to cover up profanity spray-painted on the walls.

If you have any information on the vandalism, please contact Southwick Police: (413) 569-5348
