Tonight, revelers are packing into Northampton to say goodbye to a year with a few rough patches, but overall treated the folks of Western mass fairly well.
“I’ve had one of the best years of my life so I’m hoping that really doesn’t end with the end of the year,” says Fabienne Andrews LaFont of Northampton.
“Awww yeah, we had a good year,” shouted another groups of kids from Florence.
A lot of locals are ringing in the new year at First Night. So for many, Northampton’s annual celebration also doubles as a reunion.
“Some years I delude myself into thinking I’m going to do something else but I never end up doing anything but coming here,” says Hannah Levy of Northampton. “It’s awesome!”
“I’ve run into like 40 people already that don’t live here anymore or are home for the holidays,” adds LaFont.
And you know what they say — how you spend New Year’s Eve determines how you’ll spend the rest of your year. So why not spend it with friends?
“What am I hoping for? More wonderful moments surrounded by friends, with food and wine,” says Levy.
Northampton raises their New Year’s ball at midnight.
