Police Identify Man who was Fatally Struck on Route 128 in Newton

ambulanceNEWTON, Mass. (AP) — State police say an 18-year-old man fatally struck on Route 128 in Newton worked at the nearby highway service plaza and was trying to cross the road on foot.

Police said the body of Reishaun Michael Hopkins of Malden was found at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday near Exit 21. Police said he usually worked the day shift at Honeydew Donuts.

Police said it appears Hopkins was struck while crossing the northbound lanes of the eight-lane highway. His body was thrown into the southbound lanes, where it was struck again. The two sides of the highway are divided by Jersey barriers.

Police closed lanes on both sides of the highway, causing major commuter delays Thursday morning.

No charges were filed. Police did not say why he was trying to cross.
