Springfield Police Searching for Attempted Robbery Suspect

imageSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police are searching for a man who, they say, tried to rob a female driver while she was stopped at a stoplight.

It happened at around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Springfield Police told ABC40 that the woman was stopped at the corner of Worthington and Dwight Streets with her 2-year-old son as a passenger when the man came up from behind the car and hit it with a baseball bat.

According to police the man then approached the driver’s door, opened it, and struggled with the driver as he tried to grab her purse. The robber ran away and the woman went to a nearby pizza shop to call police.

The Springfield Detective Bureau is describing the robber as a black male in his 20’s standing at 6 feet tall with facial hair. He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. If you have any information you’re asked to call the Springfield Detective Bureau at (413) 787-6355, or you can text-a-tip by texting it to CRIMES (274637) and in the message type SOLVE and then your tip.
