Pedestrian Struck in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A man is in the hospital this evening after being struck in Springfield on Oakland and Shamrock Streets.
The accident happened just before 6:00 p.m. and police say the man who was taken to Baystate Medical Center is in serious condition.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Clapprood, told ABC40 News, “The man was wearing dark clothing and it appears the man may have just popped out in front of the driver.”
Clapprood says his injuries are not life-threatening.
The vehicle described by our crew on scene is a dark blue Nissan sedan and debris can be seen all over the road.
The driver, a woman, has not been cited as of yet according to police who are still investigating the situation.
Shamrock? That wasn’t too lucky!
That’s why people need to not wear dark clothing at night while crossing roads!!!! Just saying…
Well they say that springfield was rated top of drunkest city’s. Hmmm? Was the driver drunk or the pedestrian?

People just walk out into streets without caring .. They think they can just do whatever they want. . And if you let the cross they walk super slow. .I feel like running them over too. .
seriously, does this happen every week!? i’m not surprised, i’ve driven in springfield, and people just about walk worse than they do drive there…. This is why people shouldn’t just go walking into traffic and not caring that there are cars coming or even bother to look…. i’m done feeling sorry for these ppl…. it sucks, hope you feel better, and when ya do, try to look both ways for once, maybe use a crosswalk or something…. wait for a walk light… SOMETHING….. no sympathy

I had a woman literally throw her child in a carriage in front of my car to stop me, then looks at me like i’m a jerk…. it’s pretty sickening the way people walk in Springfield….
1. Wearing dark clothing at night is just plain dumb
2. Crossing the street without using a crosswalk is just plain dumb
3. Assuming that drivers see you at night and will stop to let you cross the street is just plain dumb

Not surprised! Can’t count how many times people just walk out in the road in front of me in any given day. Sidewalks are there for a reason. I thank my husband everyday for always making sure my car has good breaks,tires & a clean windshield!
