2 Dead, 4 Injured in Chelmsford Condo Fire

fireCHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) — The state fire marshal says two people died and four others were injured in a condominium fire in northeastern Massachusetts.

Fire Marshal Stephen Coan says the victims are believed to be a couple in their late 60s or early 70s who lived at the Woodcrest Condominiums in Chelmsford. The fire began at around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Coan says he believes the fire started in the couple’s fourth-floor home. He says four relatives visiting the couple, including two adults and two children, were injured and taken to hospitals. One of the children, a 7-year-old boy, suffered serious burns.

The victims’ names haven’t been released.

Several other residents of the building’s top floor were rescued from balconies.

Coan says the fire appears to have been an accident. The cause is under investigation.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are offering housing and other help to the victims.
