HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Sunday’s weather was perfect for a skate in the park. So, it’s no surprise plenty of people came out for the grand opening of an ice skating rink at Holyoke’s Community Field this afternoon.
With hot chocolate, cotton candy and soup being handed out, families were all-the-more excited to lace up at the city’s first four-season park.
“I think it’s really exciting,” says Mary Lou LaPrade. “For me, as a Holyoke native, I just — I really enjoy seeing Holyoke come together.”
She adds, “There’s just something about Holyoke that all the people come together and it’s a really fun time.”
“I was overhearing people just now chat about how it looks like a Norman Rockwell painting — ice skating in the winter,” says Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse. “In a city like Holyoke, it’s something we’re really proud of.”
Morse says the city will also plans to turn of one of the tennis courts into another ice skating rink in the coming weeks.

We were there, it was a great day, the sun was shining, nice & warm.
Holyoke is doing a wonderful job for the community.
Holyoke seems to be going in the right direction. Its getting back to the way it once was a long time ago. Now only if they can clean up some more of the “unwanted trash” it would be a wonderful city!
