17 Years Ago Today- “The Blizzard of ’96”

snowstormSpringfield Mass (WGGB) Seventeen years ago today a huge snowstorm was barreling up the coast, the “Blizzard of ’96”. North Carolina to Boston picked up over a foot of snow with some parts of southern New England receiving over 2 feet.

Springfield saw 18.6″, Boston 18.2 and Providence 22.8″.  It’s the 4th largest snowstorm at The Westover Air Reserve Base since records have been kept back in the 1940s.

You may not remember this storm specifically since it was one of many storms that hit western Mass that year. The winter of 95′-96′ is one of the snowiest winters on record.
