Framingham Man Charged with Torturing, Killing Dog
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Framingham man prosecutors say tortured and killed his own dog, then tossed the body in a trash container, has been charged with animal cruelty.
Douglas Coelho was held on $20,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment Monday.
Prosecutors say the 27-year-old Coelho hit and threw the small female mixed-breed dog weighing about 7 1/2 pounds because it had urinated on his bed. His roommate said Coelho often held the dog’s head under water. He also allegedly tied the dog’s legs together at night so it couldn’t jump on his bed.
Coelho told investigators he did not mean to kill the dog.
His lawyer argued for lower bail saying he was not a flight risk.
Immigration officials say Coelho is an illegal immigrant from Brazil.
