Swearing-in for Mass. LGBT Youth Commission

gayBOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick is preparing to swear-in members of an independent commission seeking to improve state services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.

Patrick is scheduled to administer the oath of office Wednesday to members of the Massachusetts Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth. The independent commission promotes better use of private and public resources.

Patrick is expected to highlight progress made by his administration in improving the lives of LGBT youth.

The swearing-in occurs months after transgender inmate Michelle Kosilek won a long-awaited ruling when a federal judge ordered a taxpayer-funded sex-change surgery for her, saying the state Department of Corrections had shown “deliberate indifference” to her “serious medical need.” The DOC is appealing the ruling.

  1. In the interests of fairness and equality, we have organized the precursor to what we hope will become a state recognized commission for natural gender conformance. Our aim will ne to serve as a balance to socially progressive oppression of the masses through the power of the State.
