Mass. Activists Mark Run-Up to Abortion Milestone

Court-Abortions

BOSTON (AP) — Women’s health advocates are preparing to host a breakfast meeting with Massachusetts lawmakers in the run-up to the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision that established a nationwide right to abortion.

The milestone decision stemmed from the Roe v. Wade case. At the time of the 1973 case, abortion was legal on request in four states, allowed under limited circumstances in about 16 others, and outlawed under nearly all circumstances in the other states.

Organizers say the Massachusetts legislative breakfast and lobby day scheduled for Thursday will feature speakers including Senate President Therese Murray.

Women’s health supporters attending the event will meet with their representatives and senators and ask them to co-sponsor legislation that will expand access to reproductive health care and comprehensive sexuality education in Massachusetts.
