HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Some folks at the Holyoke Mall say they just can’t resist a good sale no matter who they’re shopping for.
“Over at express they have a sale, over 70% off. I usually don’t buy for other people. I buy for myself. I’m a little selfish,” Nick Newsome joked.
“My girlfriend is getting her pants hemmed. One of the most boring things you can do at the mall,” chuckled Peter Chirichello.
“There’s some sales at American Eagle, like 40%, and I have a gift card there, so, I was going to check that out,” Lindsey Ryder chimed.
That’s actually one of the reasons why the Holyoke Mall has been so packed since the holidays.
“People are coming in, redeeming their gift cards, making exchanges, and they’re taking advantage of clearance sales,” said Lisa Wray, the mall’s Marketing Director.
Wray recognizes this is a good time to take advantage of all the foot traffic for a worthy cause. “We’re also encouraging shoppers to bring a canned good. We’re partnering with the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army for a food drive so we can bring a canned good donation to customer service on the lower level near the Sears court,” she noted.
If the crowds aren’t your thing, but you still want to drop off a canned good, the mall is holding the drive until January 31st.
Holyoke Mall’s Sidewalk Sale might also be to blame for the extra people; it’s where retailers put their clearance merchandise on display. The sidewalk sale runs through tomorrow.
