EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Berry Plastics Corporation in Easthampton is laying off more of its employees in less than a year citing economic reasons.
We talked with the company’s Communications Manager, Eva Schmitz who told us they have issued layoff notifications to approximately 20 employees in Easthampton.
Berry Plastics currently employs around 315 people in that area.
Schmitz adds, “The current economic conditions which are reflected in customer demands require us to take this measure and despite today’s necessary actions, the future of the Easthampton plant is strong as we anticipate economic conditions to improve later this year.”
Back in August of 2012 over two dozen employees were laid-off because the company no longer had the hours for them to work. At that time they also cited economic reasons including soft consumer demand and the streamlining of manufacturing processes.
The company produces extruded tubes for a variety of markets and is part of the company’s Rigid Closed Top Division.
