Former Springfield Mayor Endorses Gubernatorial Candidate

1-21 ALBANO CAPUANOSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The race for the governor’s seat may be nearly two years away, but some names are already being thrown into the ring.

Former four-term Springfield Mayor Michael has announced his support for Congressman from the 7th District Michael Capuano.

Albano, who is currently serving on the Governor’s Council, said a committee supporting Capuano will be formed this week.

The democratic congressman has not yet formally announced any interest in running for the governor’s seat. Democratic Incumbent Governor Patrick is allowed to run for a third term, but he has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014.

A statement on Albano’s website and his Facebook page reads as follows:

With the field of candidates for Governor beginning to take shape, it becomes important for Democrats to be actively engaged at the early stages of the process.
In this regard, I invite my friends to closely examine the record of Congressman Michael Capuano.

While the Congressman has not made a decision to compete for the nomination at this time, it is not to early to make the case and encourage his candidacy.
In my opinion, he would make an outstanding Governor.
To this end, a Draft Mike Capuano for Governor Committee will be formed this week.
Please continue to watch this page as further developments are announced.

Thank You,
Mike
