Attempted Robbery Stopped by Cash Register
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A would-be robber was thwarted by the very cash register he was trying to steal from Monday night.
Springfield Police told ABC40 that the Peking House Chinese Restaurant at 844 Liberty Street was visited by an armed man looking to steal money. The man is described as having a medium build and wearing a black hat, face mask, black clothing and hood. Police said he went into the shop, brandishing a gun, and demanding cash.
The woman at the register fled the restaurant through the back of the building and called police. Officers got the call at 8:00 p.m. and rushed to the scene, but when they got there the man already left.
The suspect allegedly tried to get cash out of the register, but couldn’t figure out how to get the money out of the machine. After his failed attempt, police say he ran away from the scene.
The Springfield Detective Bureau is investigating.
