NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Police say a single motor vehicle rollover crash on I-91 Northbound in Northampton tonight sent a Hadley man to the hospital.

State Police Trooper, Thomas Murphy says when they arrived they found a 2009 Nissan Xterra on its side and there was smoking coming from the vehicle.

The Northampton Fire Department went to the scene as well and using the Jaws of Life they rescued the man who was trapped inside.

The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m.

The Hadley man is 21-years-old and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

He was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

At this time authorities are not releasing his name.

Traffic was down to one lane during that time and did get backed up for a period while crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the State Police.
