New Bedford Man Charged in Baby’s Death
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A New Bedford man has been charged in connection with the death of a 9-month-old girl.
According to the Bristol district attorney’s office, 23-year-old Ethen Harrison was charged Friday with reckless endangerment of a child, assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
The investigation began after the baby was brought by private vehicle to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford at about 6 p.m. Thursday.
The baby, identified as Ariel Aluzario, was flown to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I., for surgery and was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
Authorities say Harrison is not the child’s biological father but lives in the same apartment as the baby’s mother.
An autopsy is scheduled.
