Springfield Man Charged in Box Cutter Attack Outside Meadows Lounge

police lights and handcuffsEAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB) — A Springfield man is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after police say he slashed the face of another man following a verbal altercation outside the Meadows Lounge in East Longmeadow today.

52-year-old, Jose Antonio Rivera and another man got into a confrontation around 3:00 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Meadows Lounge on North Main Street following a family function. The argument escalated from verbal to physical when Rivera allegedly slashed the victim’s face with a box pipe razor.

That’s according to Police Sergeant, Jeffrey Dalessio.

The victim, whose name is not being released by police at this time, was rushed to Bay State Hospital with a serious wound that needed stitches. Dalessio says he is expected to recover though.

Rivera is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and is being held on a $20,000 cash bond and will appear in Palmer District Court on Tuesday.
