This morning, bright and early, about 10 parents and administrators from New Leadership boarded a van and headed to Bridgewater.
This afternoon around 3, they arrived back in Springfield after attending the state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting. That’s the same department that decided not to renew New Leadership’s charter after the end of this school year
The group says the meeting was eventful, in that they were able to hear the board’s decision in person. But ultimately they weren’t able to change that decision, and their school is still scheduled to close in june.
“A sad day, sad day,” said New Leadership Charter Principal Trevor Christopher. “However we continue to hold out faith that even at this 13th hour something else will arise and come forth and we’re moving forward.”
Christopher didn’t say exactly how the school was prepared to move forward, but the group is inviting all the New Leadership Charter parents to attend a meeting to discuss the day’s events.
It’s Tuesday night from 6 to 8pm at Rebecca Johnson Elementary at 55 Catharine Street in Springfield.
Christopher says they’ll debrief with everyone and decide where to go next as they continue to fight to keep their school open.
