Mass. Senate Race to Kick off if Kerry Confirmed

PEOPLE-KERRYBOSTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. John Kerry is on the verge of being confirmed as secretary of state, a move that would signal the start of Massachusetts’ third Senate contest since 2010.

If Kerry is confirmed by the full Senate on Tuesday, he’s expected to formally submit his letter of resignation from the chamber he’s served in for nearly three decades.

Gov. Deval Patrick said Monday that he’ll then set the date of a special election for June 25. The primary will take place on April 30.

Kerry’s resignation also means that Patrick will have to name an interim appointee to temporarily fill Kerry’s seat until the special election.

Patrick said Monday he’s yet to inform his choice of his decision.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey is the only announced candidate for Kerry’s seat so far.

  1. Who cares, it doesn’t matter any more. They are all the same. They could care less about you the People. It is all about them. They will all tell you what you want to hear and then, when elected, do what they want.
