ASHFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — Emergency personnel from surrounding communities were called to Ashfield tonight for a motor vehicle crash that left multiple people hurt.

Authorities were notified of the accident on Route 112 just before 6:00 p.m. today.

Goshen Fire Department went to the scene with a fire engine and the Northampton Fire Department responded as well.  They were the fourth ambulance that was called to the crash.

State Police Trooper Murphy with Media Relations says three people were trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated.  He could not say however which hospitals they were transported too.

We spoke with State Police Sgt. Steven Jankowski earlier and he told us, “It’s a two car accident and there are multiple injuries and some entrapment.  No fatalities at this point but there are serious injuries.”

Murphy reports the two vehicles involved were a 1995 Honda Accord and a 2006 Chevy Colorado.

Route 112 in the area of Sanderson Academy from upper Route 116 to lower Route 116, has been shut down to traffic and will remain closed for an extended period of time tonight while police investigate.  Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

A State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is on scene and working to determine the circumstances surrounding this crash.
