Parents Will Keep Fighting for School to Stay Open Despite State’s Decision
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Parents from New Leadership Charter School in Springfield met tonight to work on ways to keep their kids’ school open.
Earlier today, the State Department of Education voted not to renew the school’s charter.
A group of parents went to that meeting, but weren’t able to change the state’s decision.
However, the school’s principal says the parents have decided to keep fighting.
“The parents want to see how we can work with Springfield Public Schools to keep our school intact and to find out what that actually entails and what that actually means. They are calling their own meetings, and they are generating their own energy to move forward,” says Principal Dr. Trevor Christopher.
Those parents will hold another meeting tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m.
Dr. Christopher says the school will stay open through June and parents should let their kids finish out the year at New Leadership.
