Holyoke Expanding Its Afterschool Program

ConnectionsGrantHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — Parents will have some new afterschool options soon for their children in Holyoke.

This city has expanded its “Connections” Afterschool Program thanks to $264,000 in grants from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Now, the program will be able to provide services to Donahue Middle School and Dean Technical High School.

Assistant Director of Connections, Jennifer Scott told us, “With the new grants we are receiving, this $264,000 in grants from the Department of Education, we’re going to be serving about 100 more students.  This is going to give us the opportunity to provide this experience of hands on learning to a wider age range of students in the city.”

Connections provides tutoring and extracurricular activities to more than 240 at-risk students in Holyoke.

It currently operates at 3 elementary schools and one middles school.

Scott says the expanded afterschool program should get underway by the end of February.
