Agawam Solar Farms CompleteAGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) — It may not seem like the sun has much power this time of year, but that’s not the case in Agawam.
A 10 acre field full of solar arrays off of Main Street is complete.
Earlier today, workers took advantage of the warm weather to put the finishing touches on the more than 7,000 panels.
The solar farm, in place where Mushie’s driving range was located, is one of two in Agawam.
The other, also complete, is off of route 57.
“We estimate each one of our Agawam facilities will offset about 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide each,” said Brian Morrissey, Director of Solar Development at Citizens Energy. “So you get that social benefit. You also get the added tax revenue thru property taxes for both facilities.”
Citizens Energy indicated the solar farms were set to go online next week.
Each will produce 1.8 megawatts of electricity.
