SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — A special check presentation Friday morning.
Now more than $6,000 will held rebuild the South End Community Center.
You may remember that the building in downtown Springfield was severely damaged in the June 1st tornado.
Two checks were presented, each for approximately $3,000. One was given from Baystate Builders, and the other from the Sheriff’s Shuffle 5k Memorial Race.
Organizer Dan Moran says all proceeds will go towards the center’s new location in the South End. “Just getting the community together and just shows testamet of how much the South End Community Center means to the local area,” he says.
Moran says the Sheriff’s Shuffle gets lots of local sponsors and volunteers from area high schools like SABIS International and Minnechaug.
Baystate Builders came up with the dough by selling advertisement space on boards used to cover buildings damaged by the tornado.
