High school teams from New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts were all vying for top prizes in events like the armed and unarmed rifle regulation drill, the exhibition drill and uniform inspection.
For some, the event was the culmination of four years of hard work.
“This will be the last drill competition at Central for the seniors, and so this will be the last chance to show Springfield what we’ve got and take home some trophies,” says Cadet Lt. Col. Jarren Pacheco.
“It’s important because out of the junior ROTC program, we have not just Air Force but we have Navy and also Army ROTC, as well,” says Major Phillip Hardin. “They are here to show the spirit of competition.”
Some members of the Central High School ROTC team will now head to Washington DC for the national championships over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
