EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — The assistant principal at Easthampton High School has been placed on paid administrative leave following her arrest on drunken driving charges.

Anne Beauregard pleaded not guilty Monday in Springfield District Court to a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

West Springfield police said they found the 51-year-old Beauregard in the driver’s seat of a car at about 1:50 a.m. Thursday.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that the running but stationary vehicle was facing south in the northbound lane of a city street with front driver’s side tire rim damage that an officer attributed to the car hitting the curb.

Police say Beauregard was unsteady on her feet and slurring her words.

She could not be reached for comment.
