BOSTON (AP) — Republican state Rep. Daniel Winslow says he is forming an exploratory committee to determine whether he’ll run for the U.S. Senate.

Winslow released a statement Tuesday saying he was “testing the waters” for a possible run for the seat formerly held by Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Norfolk Republican is a former judge and was chief legal counsel during the administration of former Gov. Mitt Romney.

The Massachusetts GOP has been struggling to find a candidate since former Sen. Scott Brown announced Friday that he would not be a candidate in the upcoming special election.

Several other high-profile Republicans have also passed on the race.

U.S. Reps. Stephen Lynch and Edward Markey are running for the Democratic nomination.

The primary is scheduled for April 30 and the special election is June 25.
