SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The light snowy weather tonight has created some slick conditions this evening on the roadways that have lead to a number of accidents.
Troopers assigned to the State Police barracks in Northampton say that they were dealing with multiple accidents tonight, but they could not elaborate further.
In Holyoke, in the vicinity of Westfield Road and Apremont Highway, there was an accident there this evening that occurred around 8:00 p.m.
Our crew that was on scene says that a pickup truck was off to the side of the road. No serious injuries occurred and the accident has since cleared up, but police say they did send a sander out to help keep the roads safe.
Then on Interstate 91 in the area of Northampton and Holyoke our crew reported seeing several accidents on the highway that appeared to be minor spin-outs.
State Police media relations spokesperson Trooper Ken Gatez told us that there was another accident just after 8:00 p.m. as well.
This time it was on I-91 South near mile marker 12 in Holyoke. It was a one car crash that sent a 2003 Honda Civic into a guardrail due to icy conditions. No one was injured in that accident either.
Trooper Gatez also reports that another single motor vehicle accident on I-91 South at the Holyoke/Northampton line occurred around the same time sending a teen to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. In that accident the car, a Kia Rio, rolled over and came to land on its roof. This accident was weather related as well.
With many roadways covered in a light layer of snow tonight, police are asking drivers to slow down and stay cautious.
