SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A Springfield man accused of biting off a portion of another man’s ear has been found guilty on some of the charges against him.
Tuesday in Hampden County Superior Court, a jury found Timothy Forbes of Springfield guilty on a charge of mayhem and a charge of assault and battery causing bodily injury.
Forbes was acquitted on one charge of assault and battery on a child.
Last March, Forbes was arrested after a fight broke out at a CYO basketball game at the Holy Name School in Springfield.
After the game concluded, Forbes, who had children on the losing team, proceeded to attack the coach of the winning team while both teams lined up to shake hands.
During the fight, Forbes bit off a part of the coach’s ear.
Several people who witnessed the attack, including the victim’s wife, frantically called 911 (CLICK HERE to hear the calls) to report what was going on at Holy Name.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center where he underwent surgery to reattach a portion of the ear.
Forbes was immediately sentenced to serve to serve two concurrent sentences, which will have him behind bars for three to four years. His attorney, Vincent Bongiorni, tells ABC40 that he intends to file a notice of appeal.
