House Fire on Wait Street in Springfield Knocked Down

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Firefighters have been able to put out flames that were burning a home on Wait Street in Springfield.

Police Captain, Cheryl Clapprood says the call came in at about 10:00 p.m. tonight.  The house is located at 20 Wait Street.

At the start of the blaze a couple of floors of the building were engulfed in flames.

According to police everyone has made it out safely.

Firefighters are now combing the second and third floors which suffered the most damage to double check that the fire has been successfully put out.

At this time the cause of the fire does remain under investigation.

Authorities have closed down Wait Street to traffic for the time being while crews work.
