WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The Westfield City Council Planning Board took on a new issue tonight, medical marijuana.
The board met to learn a little more about the referendum that passed in November allowing the sale and use of medical marijuana in the state.
The committee brought in an expert tonight, to figure out their role in this uncharted territory. They learned they may have a lot of decisions to make.
David Baker with Western New England University told us, “The law that was passed really doesn’t state anything regarding local municipalities, towns, whatever, what they can do.”
The State Board of Public Health still has some work to do before medical marijuana is sold, and at that point, each community can decide whether they will allow a dispensary.
