GRANVILLE, Mass. (WGGB) — One person is dead after fire breaks out near a Granville garage.

Jennifer Mieth, spokesperson for State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan, the fire started around 9:00 a.m. Friday at Hansen’s Garage on Silver Street in Granville.

A homeless couple was staying in a van on the property when it caught fire, Mieth adds.

A woman was able to escape but another person was not and died.

The cause remains under investigation, but Mieth says that investigators are focusing on a portable propane heater/stove that may have ignited bedding inside the van.

The name of the victim has not been released.
