SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – The Springfield Department of Public Works spent Friday morning prepping vehicles and planning out a course of action for the storm expected to bring potentially 18″ inches to the Pioneer Valley.
“We’re ready to pounce on the first snowflake!” Winter shift foreman Bob Spaulding tells Abc40. Spaulding says salting the roads will begin when flakes start hitting the ground. Once accumulation occurs, the DPW’s 16 trucks go into plow-mode.
“With our 16 trucks and then calling in all hired-help we have about 150 vehicles out on the roads clearing snow.” Spaulding says.
Two things Spaulding says will help his crews get streets cleared is to obey parking bans and refrain from traveling during the storm.
