Emergency Crews Having a Tough Time with the Amount of Snow Falling

snow storm February 9, 2013 BSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — With the snow still falling at a good pace, a number of road crews and police departments in Western Mass are having a tough time getting through the storm.

In Holyoke, Police Lt. Jim Albert reports that the DPW crews are getting stuck in the snow.  While they are still out there working the amount of snow is proving difficult.

“So much hit in so little time, the volume is overwhelming,” says Lt. Albert.

Holyoke police say they’ve responded to several minor accidents due to the storm.

In Southwick, police told us their DPW crews have also been trapped in the snow a number of times and they’re having a really tough time keeping up with the amount of snow fall as well.

Over in Northampton police say their cruisers are getting stuck in the snow and responding to calls has proved difficult.   While no serious incidents have occurred tonight, a number of drivers in that community have slid off the road and gotten stuck.

So police there are having to not only dig out their own vehicles, but citizen vehicles as well.
