SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — With the snow still falling at a good pace, a number of road crews and police departments in Western Mass are having a tough time getting through the storm.
In Holyoke, Police Lt. Jim Albert reports that the DPW crews are getting stuck in the snow. While they are still out there working the amount of snow is proving difficult.
“So much hit in so little time, the volume is overwhelming,” says Lt. Albert.
Holyoke police say they’ve responded to several minor accidents due to the storm.
In Southwick, police told us their DPW crews have also been trapped in the snow a number of times and they’re having a really tough time keeping up with the amount of snow fall as well.
Over in Northampton police say their cruisers are getting stuck in the snow and responding to calls has proved difficult. While no serious incidents have occurred tonight, a number of drivers in that community have slid off the road and gotten stuck.
So police there are having to not only dig out their own vehicles, but citizen vehicles as well.

Maybe if they’d been out there the whole time the snow was falling instead of waiting for it to build up, it wouldn’t be so hard
so grateful for all of them hard at work doing the best they can Im sure
Mike if you think this is easy to keep up with then why don’t you get your *** out here and do it…. It’s falling faster then anyone can keep up with it. Easy to talk when your sitting in your warm house
i bet same here in westfield
I have no problem with anyway the storm is being handled. Im in holyoke. We have power and the cops and road crew are doing the best they can. Despite our imcompetent mayor. Stop arguing. And relax. Its a snow storm.
im in Southampton / westfield they have been out all day just about on the hour and u just cant keep up do right if u gotta complain do it your self
I have been watching out my window all night here in chicopee and the plows were coming by every 15-20 minutes like clock work. But since the storm picked up intensity they are coming every 40-45 minutes. Only so much they can do when you can barely see your hand in front of your face.
Incompetent*
Totally agree with mike. Saw a total of 3 times all day a plow came by our house in west side. They’re too busy hanging out at the coffee shops!!!
Ps everyone is out doing the best they can. Its a bad storm. Obviously people aren’t taking the governors advice and staying off of the street.
i plowed my driveway 4 times tonight and theres a foot of snow in it again ….beforr u go and talk about other ppls jobs do it yourself …they put there lufe on the line to make roads safe for YOU
I think u guys r doing a great job trying to keep up with it!!!!
That is ****. I just drove home from work and there are plows everywhere. From Windsor Locks to West Springfield I must have seen around 20 plow trucks. The main roads are good. But secondary roads are bad.
Very true i saw cars up until an hour ago even saw a motorcycle TWICE. I think EVERY single road crew that is risking their lives for us in this horrible storm deserves a heck of a lot more than complaining about the job they are doing.
It’s coming down too fast. A few plowguys came in for coffee at my store and they said that they’d do a strip of the road only to to look back and have their tire marks be covered. My parking lot is almost snowed in and one guy said a foot of snow has fallen in the last 3 hours.
Only seen the plow twice today inmy street but I’m in a secondary st. Which is impassable everyone who was dumb enough to drive down our street tonight has given us comedic relief to the storm! Falling in the snow from pushing just hilarious !! Wind is making everything harder for the workers viability is none give them a break
They’re doing a great job. I’ve seen three come up and down the road toward the base almost hourly. Things are pretty clear – or as clear as they can be.
Dpw is Springfield is doing a great job!!! Stay safe out there and thank you dpw, emergency crews and police officers
Hey Brendan, I would GLADLY be out there plowing! I would rather be making money than posting on Facebook
I live in Westfield, the ONLY plows I’ve seen are guys in their pickups, NOT city trucks
My road is 100% untouched lol. Totally trapped fml
yea no kidding its even harder when you cant see where your going i couldnt see 20 ft in front of the truck most of tonight
I love the people who say they are doing a great job… I mean really?! The side roads will be impossible for days and guess what? That’s where 95% of us LIVE!!! The trucks should have been out sooner, no offense to the workers, just to the states planning on taking care of this. Ban driving at 4 because you know you won’t be working on removal until god knows when for most of us…. And to finish my rant, what about emergency vehicle access to the people who live here?! There are already news bits about his that has been a nightmare
So true Eric well said!!!!
Mike, you may only see the pickup trucks because of where you live in town. The city has divided the areas up so it all gets covered, so the City Trucks may be plowing the main roads more then the side roads where the pickups are. Eric, i know living on a side road, they have come by several times and have kept the road plowed. They have been out since first thing this morning, but with how many streets that are in every city, it is hard to come by every 30-60 min at times, they are doing the best that they can.
