PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) — Police in New York say hundreds of cars have gotten stuck on the Long Island Expressway during a massive snowstorm and dozens of disabled motorists are still on the road.
Suffolk County police say cars began getting stuck Friday afternoon because weather conditions have been so bad. Authorities say vehicles are backed up and can’t pass one another, and mounds of snow from plows have made it difficult for them to exit the highway.
Police say disabled motorists remain on the road early Saturday, and officers are working to get them off the road and make sure they’re safe.
The Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway are both shut down in Suffolk County except for emergency vehicles.
Authorities say no injuries have been reported.

This is why you stay off the roads when it’s bad weather.
Right why are the on the roads????
Why do we care in Western Mass?
Don’t Long Islanders have the sense to stay off the roads. Typical of New Yorker
Lol @ ,william
Everyone knows better. Those that think a day of work or shopping is worth more than their lives aren’t really thinkin’. Tomorrow will come and anything you have you can’t take with you. The ones you leave behind are left. I forbid my young little treasured chef who insisted on traveling here to get her hours, not to come. I told her I would fire her if she showed up. LOL! Life is more important than a couple bucks.
I agree Debra but try telling that to the ones going in to work who work in the ER. I think for all of them they should offer a plow truck to pick them up and take them in if needed to go to work as so many are risking there lives to go in or leave to go home
Dan I asked you to do a snow dance and lookin’ out the window, you over did it. Now I am requesting a sun dance so I don’t have to clean off my car and shovel it out. My car is completely buried. Can’t even see it. It is pretty out there ;O)
Any true born new englander knows to stay in
Did they not have a travel ban like MA? That many cars stuck can’t be only essential personnel…
Guess they weren’t around for the Blizzard of 78!
Tracy, they actually offer that to Emergency workers. They did it in 1978 and I know for sure, they will do it in storms like this, the staff just has to pick up the phone. I used to work in ER and I know they will accomodate our public services. In ’78 we had a 7 day driving ban and all emergency personel received transportation if they called.
I feel so bad for all the medical personnel that have to work in this along with plow people and everyone else stuck working in this! Thank you all for doing what you do for us
Thanks Kelly Lee I appreciate the compliment
…just trying to help.
Wow shawn2 who pissed in your cereal this morning. You’re such a sweetheart really
I lived through the storm of ’78 and plow trucks took First responders to work. Only way to ;O)
@Debra Horton, some people have to go to work during snowstorms whether they want to or not. It’s not that they think that a day of work is more important than their lives, but for health care workers, other people’s lives depend on them! What would happen if doctors, nurses, emts, etc decided that they weren’t going to go to work because of the snow? God forbid if you needed to be rushed to the hospital during a snowstorm and there was noone there to take you in an ambulance and if you made it to the hospital, there was noone there to treat you! What then?! I am a nurse in a nursing home and my patients depend on me for their care, treatments, meds, etc. So, yes, I will travel in a snowstorm to get to work, not for the money, but because other people’s lives depend on me!
@Debra Horton, some people have to travel to work in snowstorms whether they want to or not! I travel to work in bad weather, and its not for the money. I am a nurse and my patients depend on me to be there for them! Nurses, doctors, emts, etc don’t think that a day of work is more important than their lives. We just know that we have other people to think about than just ourselves! What would happen if you needed to be rushed to the hospital during a snowstorm and there was no ambulance to take you there? And, if you managed to get there, there was noone there to treat you? Our patients count on us to be there for them. We don’t say, well I need the money so I am going to risk my life and go to work during this terrible storm. We go to work because we know our patients and potential patients need us!
It ain’t Lee it is Lin part of my mother name Linda. You are always a ray of sunshine. Just saying
Keely your best to ignore him as he follows me all over this page and every single time i comment he has nothing nice to say to me. he harasses me all the time. I never make any rude or condescending comments and only try to be positive but no matter what I say he will find a way to pick on me. He has been harassing me for months now against the policy of this page might I add. He makes things up about me and posts it and I am not sure why he has chosen me as I do not know who he is or ever met him or maybe it is a she. They just need someone to insult to make themselves feel better and somehow I am the one they chose. If your lucky they will not start to follow your posts and pick on you next. But thanks for noticing how he/she is.
Maybe he’s in lust with you and he obviously can’t spell. Second time he got my name wrong. Lol
Lol small minded and i’M sure that’S not all is his issue lol
