Gov. Patrick Tours Areas Hard Hit by Blizzard

patrickpresser2PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick says Massachusetts came through the blizzard reasonably well but about 240,000 residents are still without power.

The governor and U.S. senators Elizabeth Warren and Mo Cowan are touring the South Shore and Cape Cod on Sunday, the hardest-hit areas of the state.

Patrick said in an interview taped for CBS’s Face the Nation that about one thousand people spent the night in emergency shelters. He said utilities hope to restore all power by Tuesday.

The governor said the coastline sustained some damage but there were no serious injuries due to flooding.

One concern going forward is the threat of rain on Monday that could put added weight on roofs already burdened with heavy snow. He says people who can clear roofs safely should try to do so.
