No School Monday in Springfield; Plow Complaints Continue
February 10th, 2013
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Mayor Domenic Sarno just announced that Springfield Schools will be closed Monday, as the winter storm clean-up continues.
The Mayor admitted to ABC40 that he’s frustrated with the pace of the snow removal on side streets. He asks that residents still dealing with poor conditions call 787-6276.
In addition to Springfield, several other major districts have started cancelling Monday classes, including Agawam, Holyoke, and West Springfield. For a complete list, click here.

Can anyone tell me anything about Holyoke Community College? Is the PVTA going to clear out the bus stops?
PEOPLE STOP COMPLAING WHAT DO YOU THINK THE TOWNS HAVE GO GO GADGET TRUCKS!! lol
No but they need to get off their ASSES AND DO THE JOB THEY ARE GETTING PAID A HELL OF ALOT OF MONEY TO DO!!!!!!
What about the colleges?!
They need bucket loaders or big state trucks to plow not little 6 inch plows on regular trucks. This is crazy!
Does this include STCC?
Sheila check this out.
They will get to them, just glad they don’t expect them to go to school when they aren’t done
If STCC & HCC are closed want to meet @ the Holyoke Mall for a drink?
Plus tomorrow AM forecast is for sleet and freezing rain!! If we don’t have enough as it is!! Hope the roads are salted and sanded.
@Anne if they don’t complain how will the city workers know which streets are still unplowed??
Coleman street… Which is directly off boston road.. Still has not been plowed! Not even once!!!
Expecting STCC to open at this point, which will make for one very dangerous commute given state of side streets here in West Side.
What about Branford hall medical building? Is it clear by industry ave and page boulevard ?
The lady thats saying “stop complaining” has obviously had her street plowed already
Colleges are probably still holding class, Springfield College had grad school classes today even though numerous side streets hasn’t been plowed. BOGUS
At STCC right now, all cleaned up, presume it’ll be open 2 morow…
they did an awful job plowing in 16 acres I was outside when they went by it was 3 trucks with mere kids driving they had no clue what they were doing ,they had massive trucks but no skill. awful
This is ridiculous! We were ordered to stay off the streets of Springfield so the streets can be plowed. We were told that the main streets will be plowed first and then the side streets afterwards. The snowplow operators were sent home Saturday afternoon to get some sleep. Are they still asleep? It is now Sunday at 7:00 pm and my side street is still not done. I am not able to get out of my driveway to go to work because of the amount of snow on the street. Will someone from City Hall call my job and tell them I can’t get to work because they neglected to take care of their residents? I get so upset when I hear someone that does not live in Springfield speak badly about Springfield, and I defend the City and the City Officials and the job they do for this City. Now I will just shut up because they are absolutely correct.
no exaggeration the plows must have gone up and down Wayne St a 100 times last night like they were clueless..never saw anything like it before in my life
This is where your property taxes that all of you pay too much for go!
do you to get out to go to work?
well a lot of people depend on a paycheck and need to get to their jobs! Also they want their money’s worth out of all the taxes they pay City of Springfield every year. So yes, keep the complaints coming!
I know it is!
Don’t count on it if you are in Springfield!
that was cute Danielle
Wow Anne doesn’t even live in Springfield, I know quite a few people who live in Springfield and there streets are full of show & I’m right on the Springfield Chicopee line & it’s BS that most of the side streets around us aren’t even touched yet.
Everything should be closed tomorrow just for safety
Sarno only spent $650,000 and has another $500,000 to go and if he doesn’t spend it now how can he approach the city council for more money in the next stor?. Not to mention pleas to MEMA, FEMA and the Deval. We shuld all try to get $2,000 stipends like they did in Katrina and take the DPW and their sub contractors to court for violating our taxes and rights to go to work or at least tend to the infirmed and elderly. Martha Coakley where are you when we need you?
Spring is just around the corner.
