SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The City of Springfield now has a new fire department Captain.

A badge pinning ceremony was held Friday at fire headquarters to promote Lieutenant Robert Fancy to the rank of Captain.

Fancy has spent the last thirteen years with the department, and was promoted to Lieutenant back in 2010.

He was promoted to Captain just a couple weeks ago on January 21st.

At Friday’s ceremony, Mayor Domenic Sarno said it’s not only a special day for Captain Fancy, but for his family as well as they have stood by him throughout his career.

“I just want to say thank you to the city and the department for allowing me the opportunity to make this rank. It takes a lot of hard work to even get on the department and even harder work to make rank. So I’m going to continue to provide service for the department that I’ve been providing in the past,” says Fancy.

Captain Fancy will remain in his current assignment as the Captain of Engine 1, located at fire headquarters on Worthington Street.
