SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Springfield police are looking for the suspect in an early morning shooting.
It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. A 26-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Pendleton Avenue and Eastern Avenue when he was approached by a man described as having a light complexion and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.
The victim told police the suspect asked him for a lighter. When he reached into his pocket, the suspect pulled out a silver handgun.
The victim says the gun went off when he tried to grab it.
He then fled the scene and discovered he had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. A family member took him to Baystate Medical Center.
The Springfield Detective Bureau is investigating.

Yea ok look at the area and time, and he asked for a lighter. Not telling police the real story.
I agree. This is the worst story ever. He shot himself by accident with an illegal gun. Case closed.
Dudes…. **** the Springfield scum of the streets. We need to just start takin care of this. I’m fed up
I don’t expect anything less, if he was in that area! Used to be able to walk any street in Springfield, years ago, now, I wouldn’t drive through most areas!
lol! I was thinking the same thing!
Let scum die
LOL
^^^ shame on you
Light complexion. Is that the new way of saying “white dude?”
Dumb story I know cops didn’t believe that lie. Did he have a cigarette or something in his mouth when he asked for a lighter? Because if a random person asks me for a lighter at 2:30 am with no witnesses around I couldn’t help but wonder what he needs the lighter for??
^ No, it’s the new way of saying “not a black guy”
@ Pittman. there is no human white dude that will even be in that area that time of night, let alone daytime. He said it right “light skinned”.
