SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – Springfield Police are looking for a 21-year-old man they say is behind a brutal assault that sent an innocent victim to the hospital with a broken jaw. It happened in May of 2012 in front of ‘Fat Cats’ bar on Worthington Street.
Police say the victim, a 24-year-old man, was conversing with two females outside of the bar one night. The victim knew the women from school. John Alexander, also out at the downtown bars, saw the conversation in progress.
“Came over without warning and just sucker punched him right in the mouth.” Sergeant John Delaney of the Springfield Police Dept. says. “Knocked two of his teeth out and really messed up his jaw where he had to go to Baystate Medical Center.”
Alexander fled the scene before police arrived. The two females the victim had been speaking to told the police they recognized the attacker. Showing them a photo lineup, police say the women identified the suspect as John Alexander.
Alexander has been arrested in the past for selling drugs and assault and battery. If you know of his whereabouts contact the Springfield Police Department or text an anonymous tip to C-R-I-M-E-S.
