SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Monday, with the help of the state treasurer’s office, we helped you claim over $175,000 in unclaimed property.

The Commonwealth is holding on the millions of dollars in money and property that might belong to you.

Perhaps it’s from a leftover, old bank account, or an insurance policy, or items forgotten in safe deposit box. You can reclaim it, but you have to know how and where to look.

Monday on ABC40 News, we teamed up with the Office of State Treasurer Steve Grossman to help you track down your unclaimed property.

One caller was reunited with $110,000 in unclaimed property, and another had about $27,000. The lowest amount claimed was $.78, but as the treasurer’s office notes, pennies turns into dollars.

Preliminary totals show that 91 claims were initiated between 5:00 to 6:30 p.m, with a total of $175,100 being claimed.
