WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A car accident on Route 20 in West Springfield this afternoon has sent three people to the hospital with injuries.
Police say they received the call shortly before 3:00 p.m. today for an accident near the Westfield line on Route 20.
West Springfield Police Sgt. Jeff Harlow says a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Route 20 in the right-hand lane when it swerved into a guardrail.
“It then traveled across three lanes into (the) westbound side where it was broad sided by another vehicle. Three people were taken to the hospital with visible injuries,” explains Sgt. Harlow.
While he couldn’t say whether their injuries were life threatening or not, he did say they were all conscious at the time.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation.
Police say the road did remain open while crews work to clear the scene. At one point, traffic was backed up about a mile in each direction.

It’s frightening how many late model cars (front wheel drive, monocoque construction – no frame)get shredded in an accident.
Texting while driving good idea
oh man, good thing the “ambulance drivers” weren’t sitting around twiddling their thumbs intentionally not responding because they have better things to do…WGGB I hope you’re ashamed of your ignorance.
Hope they are ok
Another racetrack in West Springfield.
That stretch of Rt 20, from the town line to the foot of Tatham Hill eastbound, has always been a racetrack.
