Attempted Armed Robbery Thwarted by Store Customers

stabbing-graphicSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police say a man walked into a Springfield store to grab some cash, but ran away after he got more than he bargained for.

Springfield Police Captain Brown told ABC40 that a man went into the Orchard Variety Store on Main Street at 9:20 p.m. Thursday.

According to witnesses that man pulled a knife and demanded money. That’s when the patrons of the store chased the alleged robber out of the building and onto the street. He then fled in a gray SUV.

Police say suspect is described as white or Hispanic male and stood at 5’9″ tall. He was wearing a blue jacket and tan pants. If you have any information you’re asked to call the Springfield Police at (413) 787-6325.
